How is Horizon View named user counted?

For example, I have 50 users in AD, which 20 users would connect to View as Named User. I buy 20 Horizon View Standard Named User.

Questions:

1. How Horizon counts the named users? The users that had been added entitlement?

2. If a Named User left my company, how to re-assign that lic to another user?

3. If the 21st user login to view, what would be the result? Not able to login or just some kind of warning?

Thanks!!

Hi,

Thanks for your post. You'll probably help others who have these same questions.

Actually, VMware licensing for Horizon View is very simple and is just licensed "per concurrent connection". You don't need to manage complexities such as reassigning licenses to other users or worrying about which specific users in a group have access. You should build capacity in your View deployment to ensure that you keep within your licensed limits.

There's a white paper on this subject here if you need more information - http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/products/horizon-view/VMware-Horizon-View-Pricing-Licensing-FAQ.pdf

Thanks Mark, but I was talking about "Named User" not "Concurrent User".

The FAQ provided is useful, however it is a bit too high level. I would like to know more about operational side.

Thanks.

From a operational side / technical side it works the same. The only difference is the terms of the license, named vs concurrently connected.

For example a hospital with 3 shifts and 3000 staff would need 1000 concurrent connected or 3000 named users.

1. Each user that connects will need a license.

2. No need to re-assign a license on a technical side, but you need to be able to track what users are connecting.

3. The user would be able to login and work fine but you would breach your license agreement since you only have 20 licenses.

There are no licensing server or anything like that, its up to you to make sure that you have the right number of licenses according to your license model.

(Of course all of this might change in future versions, but this is how it works currently and I have seen no indications that this will change)

Thanks Linjo!

Noted there is no hard limitation on no. of user login. It is all about the license term.

For a named user, can he/she login multiple sessions in the same time e.g. from PC and iPad in the same time?

Thanks.
