Licences

Hi, we're moving to ESXi v5.5, and currently have ESX v4 and 5.1 licences.

We have a valid S&S contract so can upgrade to v5.5.

After upgrading say an ESXi host from v4 to v5.5, will I need to assign a new licence key or existing valid. If a new key needs assigning then how is this obtained?

Hi,

the licenses are always bound to the major version. So you have 4.x and 5.x licenses.

To upgrade version 4 licenses, go to my.vmware.com login with your account that has permissions on that licenses and upgrade them there. You will receive new 5.x serial keys.

This KB tells the exact steps to do: http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2006974

Hola

saludos
