Automatic mouse release doesn't work aynmore (Fusion 6.0.2, Windows 7, OSX 10.9.2)

Hi,

in the past (prior to Fusion 5) whenever i installed a copy of windows (no matter which version) after installing VMWare tools i got automatic mouse release instantly. For quite a while now and also with another new installation i just did, automattic mouse relese doesn't work anymore. I always have to hit Cmd+Ctrl to release the mouse from windows to the Mac. Is there anything i forgot to setup? Anything special i need to do?

Thanks for helping,

Helmi

Hi Helmi74,

Thanks for using Fusion.

You may reinstall the VMVware tools, it should be fine.

unfortunately it's not. Reinstalling the VMWare tools doesn't help.

How about uninstall and reinstall the VMWare tools?

This also doesn't change anything.

Is there any setting that has to do with this feature? I don't get why this doesn't work anymore - worked so well in the past.

I'm also having the same issue. I also had a issue where I had to turn on "always optimize mouse for videogames" in order to let the mouse be captured by the Windows.(Otherwise it won't be captured at all). Helmi74, did you edit the .vmx file? I edited the .vmx file before this. But after I restored it to original the question still isn't solved. Hope there will be an answer.

Update: Now I uninstalled and reinstalled VMware Tools, and changed the view from fullscreen to "only window" and then back to fullscreen again. The problem seems to be solved.

It is VMware's drive that is buggy. When I uninstalled VMware tools, the mouse released worked correctly. Installed it and it's broken. I did this 4 times.

The solution is to change the gaming settings under general tab. Change it to "Never optimize mouse for games". Screen Shot 2014-05-09 at 9.57.49 AM.png

I am having the same problem since the release update last week. None of the suggestions here help. VMware may we please have a fix for this right away.

+1 for you.  Changing this setting immediately fixed my mouse-release issues in Fusion 7 on OS X 10.10 running Win7 bootcamp as a VM.

It must have some detection algorithm that senses if certain game-type applications are loaded (like the Origin or Steam background agents) and then fences the mouse in.  Since I only use those when actually booted to Windows and want my windowed VM to behave, I can disable this permanently for the VM.  Cheers!

Thank you for pointing this out.  I just upgraded a test Windows 7 VM to Windows 10 to play around.  In Windows 7, automatic release worked fine.  In Windows 10, not so much.  Now it works again.

I'm running VMware Fusion 7.1.2 on a 2013 RMBP with OS X 10.10.5. For the most part, VMware Fusion works well.  I've even got an ESXi guest running ESXi 6 with a Windows 7 guest and a CentOS guest, just for kicks.

Hope we eventually see 8-core processors on the laptops, along with upwards of 64GB of RAM.  Make for a wonderful VMware playground!
