data collector not running

Hi,

I've just installed Chargeback 2.6.0 in our test environment.

Installation went fine, but after the innitial setup there seems to be a problem with the data collector.

System health says: 'Some of the jobs are not assigned to any vCenter Server Data Collector' in the data collector box.

The data collectors tab under settings says: 'These jobs are not yet assigned'.

All the services are running on the same server. (Loadbalancer, Chargeback and data collector)

The vCenter server is the Virtual Appliance with integrated Postgress database 5.5U1.

Hi,

You mentioned that when you start the data collector you are getting the error "the service started and then stopped'.

Could you please check in the Event viewer- > Windows logs->Application logs what error you are getting exactly. So that we can get to know why the service is not starting. If you can share me application and system event logs i will be able to check it.

Thanks,

Lakshmi

Hi,

Could you please try the following steps?

1. Restart VC datacollector(Embedded)

2. Wait for sometime to get jobs assigned to the data collector.

3. Under Settings->Data Collectors tab check the last sync. time for all jobs. It should be somewhere around the DC restart time.

if the above doesn't work we need the latest VC data-collector logs to check what the issue is.

Thanks,

Lakshmi

When you select the collector and click on enable does it say its already running?

And under vCenter do you see the associated vCenter server?

Hello Lakshmi,

Tanks for your reply.

1:

The datacollector(Embedded) service is not running.

Starting the service results in a message 'the service started and then stopped'..

3:

All times are on 1/1/1970

The collector has not yet produced log files:

C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware vCenter Chargeback\DataCollector-Embedded\logs

@Abhilash:

Thanks for message.

There is no collector to select in the collectors tab.

That's the reason the jobs are not yet assigned. If you had a registered vCenter collector you could have assigned the job to that.

Let's start with vcenter. is the connection fine? Do you see any errors on the system health page?

And also do you see any error in the Even details page on data collector window? It'll be hidden in the bottom, you will have to pull it up.

Hi Lakshmi,

The event viewer has 6 message per try to start:

1: The VMware vCenter Chargeback DataCollector service is being started.

2: The VMware vCenter Chargeback DataCollector service has been started.

3: The LoadLibrary function failed for the following reason: The specified module could not be found.

.

4: Could not load the Java Virtual Machine.

5: C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware vCenter Chargeback DataCollector\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll

6: The VMware vCenter Chargeback DataCollector service failed to start.

Which brings me to: http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2014799

After copying the dll the collector starts.
