Test Lab on VMware Workstation

I am trying to set-up a Test Lab on VMware work station. My laptop is 8GB and dual core with I5 processor and I am trying to set-up two ESXi hosts on it and few vm's on it with shared storage. I have installed openfiler to create iscsi shared storage.

I have created a LUN with openfiler, however my esxi host could not see that. I have added iscsi software initiator and did dynamic discovery, but ESXi hosts could not see the LUN created through openfiler.

Any idea what I am doing wrong, I am trying from past 2-3 days but could not get success.

Thanks,

Steve

Hard to say what's wrong without knowing your configuration. Basically, you could create a separate network (e.g. a LAN segment) for iSCSI traffic and configure the iSCSI target (OpenFiler) as well as the iSCSI SW initiators on the ESXi host in the same, dedicated IP range.

Thanks for replying Andre.

Configuration is :

ESXi host with management IP address 192.168.0.105

CentOS openfiler machine with IP address as 192.168.0.109

Created the LUN on the openfiler machine and when I am trying to add the LUN through software iscsi intiator it is not getting visible.

Perhaps I am following the wrong steps, can you guide me with the correct steps...

What I am missing in the mentioned configuration is how you setup the iSCSI VMkernel port(s), which you are using for the iSCSI initiator. What may also be worth looking at is the presentation on the OpenFiler to see whether the LUN is properly presented to the ESXi host.

Hello,

check this vmware's kb in order to to troubleshooting:

You can also check this vmware's kb:
