vCenter Operation Manager 5.8 UI VM Root password locked out

Hello Everyone,

Is there a way to unlock the root account on the UI VM of vCenter Operation Manager?  I went through the password reset process but the account is still locked out so I can't log in still.  I can get in with the admin account if that helps.

Thanks,

Ken

Did you use the following KB for the root pw reset?

Resetting the root user password in the VMware vCenter Operations or VMware vCenter Infrastructure Navigator virtual appliance (2001476)

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=200147...

Or this:

Resetting user passwords in vCenter Operations Manager vApp (2013358)

VMware KB: Resetting user passwords in vCenter Operations Manager vApp

Mark,

I did follow the KB to reset the password but even after that the account is still locked out.  But manage to get in now, I think it has a time out and I just have to wait long enough to try again even after resetting the password.

Thanks,

Hello

thought it was worth adding with the 5.8 vApp I had the same thing as SgRddY

I reset the root password but the UI VM I locked out first I had to wait for a period before I could login as root again. anyone know what the default timeout is for the account to become "unlocked"?

When I try to access those KB articles I get an error.  How can I access the article that describes how to reset the root password?

Until the KB is back up, use this basic method you'd use for SUSE root pw reset. Set the same PW for both VMs.

Use this generic method to reset the passwd using GRUB: ('e' in to the SUSE Linux Ent item in the list)

http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-reset-any-linux-password/

Shut down the vApp.. power up the UI, change the password. Shut down the UI. Power up the Analytics VM, change password, then power down. Then power up vApp.

And snapshot the VMs before you do this as a failback.
