Workstation 9 VMs/Guests cannot be VPN clients, while Workstation 6.5 and 7.5 guests can.

The Problem:
Workstation 9 VMs/guests cannot be VPN clients, while Workstation 6.5 and 7.5 guests can.

The setup:

- Bare metal 1:  Windows 8 Pro host with 16GB memory running VMware Workstation 9 latest, using a bridged setup (See attached pic for bridged setup), with an XP 32, Windows 7 64, and Windows 8 64 VMs/Guests.
- Bare metal 2:  XP Pro host with 4GB memory running Workstation 6.5, using a bridged setup, with a W2K Server VM/Guest.
- Bare metal 3:  Windows 8 Pro laptop.
- The VPN client used in all cases is the standard Windows VPN client.

- The various VPN servers are MS 2003 Server Standard, MS 2008 Standard, Softlayer's VPN where I maintain servers for various companies.  (As I recall, they are all CISCO)

The Facts:
- All of the bare metal and VMs/guests can browse the Internet, see each other on the LAN, map drives to each other, and sync with mobile devices.
- The Windows 8 Pro running Workstation 9, the XP Pro machine running Workstation 6.5, its W2K Server guest, and the Windows 8 laptop, can all connect fine to any VPN.  In fact they can all be doing multiple VPN sessions at the same time with the same and different VPN hosts.  They work fine both wireless and wired.
- None of the VMs/Guests running under Workstation 9 can connect to any VPN, even with the firewalls and AV off on both host and guests, and while there are no other VPN connections.  They each eventually timeout with a 619 Error.  (See attached pic for error)

- Did a restore to defaults in the Virtual Network Editor, and reset up everything.  I also deleted all networks except the bridged network.  I reinstalled VMware Tools.  None of these things helped.

Summary:
Workstation 9 VMs/guests cannot be VPN clients.

The settings you used for the bridged network do not make sense.
Assign one - and only one - physical network for each bridged vmnet.

Does it make a difference when you run WS as admin and disable UAC ?
