Just passed the IaaS (VCPVCD510) which has given me the VCP-Cloud. I would have expected to see a renewed VCP3 / VCP4-DCV / VCP5-DCV, but neither has.
Is that expected ?
Yes, doing VCP-Cloud will not renew the other VCP certifications. As per new Certification guidelines, you have to do or upgrade any certifications in 2 years, it doesn't have to be VCP, it can be any VMware certification, so the latest will be applicable.
thanks,
"Earn a new VCP certification in a different solution track. For example, if you are a VCP-Cloud, you could recertify by earning VCP5-Desktop (VCP5-DT) certification."
So VMware considers VCP-DCV and VCP-Cloud the same solution track ?
This just one of the three options of the re-certification policy. They are considering VCP as one solution track no matter it is Cloud, DT or DCV (I may be wrong). In your case you have just re-validated the certification for next 2 years.
"To recertify, you must pass any VCP or higher-level exam within two years of earning your most recent VCP certification"
However, someone from Certification department will have to jump into this discussion for more lucidity.
Also the below points may further help answer your questions,
7. How can passing another VCP or higher-level certification recertify my existing certification?
It recognizes and rewards your continued growth into new knowledge areas.
8. My VCAP certification is more recent than my VCP certification – when will the valid through date reflect this?
We will be adding functionality to the system to reflect these situations in the coming months.
So we agree that VCP-CLOUD should renew the VCP5-DCV ?
Yes thats what it looks like from their post, and I think the more appropriate word would be re-validate instead of renew.
Achieving VCP-Cloud or VCP-DT is supposed to recertify your VCP-DCV certification.
I suggest popping an email to certification@vmware.com
Thought as much and done so already ..
Yes, earning your VCP-Cloud will renew/recertify your VCP5-DCV, as Cloud and Data Center Virtualization are considered two different solution tracks. We will be adding functionality to the system to reflect these situations in the coming months.
