1. Re: Infrastructure Navigator 5.8 applications not presented in vC Ops 5.8
Mauritz84 Jan 29, 2014 2:46 AM (in response to Mauritz84)I've tried to troubleshoot this further but I'm not sure if my assumptions are correct.
1. I can't see the applications group
Possible reason: We've recently upgraded vC Ops and after that the hostname has been set to "localhost.localdom"
Question 1: What conclusion can I make if I still can create custom groups in the vC Ops vSphere UI with available vin applications (See screenshot)
2. I can´t see the the applications in the vC Ops Custom UI
Possible reason: There´s something wrong with the vIN adapter, could possibly be the same reason as above
Question 2: If the vIN adapter doesn't work, won't the vSphere UI not work either?
Extract from VinAdapter logfile:
2014-01-29 11:33:32,906 ERROR [Collector worker thread 6] (5282) com.integrien.adapter3.vin.VinAdapter.onCollect - OnCollect failed

2. Re: Infrastructure Navigator 5.8 applications not presented in vC Ops 5.8
wiener vmware Jan 31, 2014 4:15 AM (in response to Mauritz84)1 person found this helpfulQuestion 1: What conclusion can I make if I still can create custom groups in the vC Ops vSphere UI with available vin applications (See screenshot)?
Answer 1: There aren't any conclusions which can be made here since VIN and vCOps have integration but are seperate products. The issue which you seem to be experiencing is with the VIN adapter fetching the manual and automatic application definitions and displaying them in vCOps UI.
Question 2: If the vIN adapter doesn't work, won't the vSphere UI not work either?
Answer 2: We must differeniate between the VIN plugin and VIN vCOps adapter. If you have Enabled and performed discovery with VIN once then you will still see the information for VMs and applications in the vSphere UI. This is solely connected to the VIN plugin and not the VIN adapter. From the error you are receiving it appears that VIN is not connected to the vSphere anymore. If could be due to the "Enable VM Access" is off, the user credentials given to VIN have changed, etc.
Hope that helps.

Mauritz84 Feb 4, 2014 3:46 AM (in response to wiener vmware)Hi,
Thanks again for your answer.
I might have located the issue. I wonder if we are on the latest VMware adapter. We haven't been upgrading the VMware adapters while upgrading vcops versions. I though these very included when vcops was upgraded.
The version the adapters we have are on:
The latest VMware adapter from Integrien:
Should it be safe to just upgrade the adapter through the admin gui?
Thanks for all your help!

4. Re: Infrastructure Navigator 5.8 applications not presented in vC Ops 5.8
Mauritz84 Feb 7, 2014 6:09 AM (in response to wiener vmware)I think my last post is totally incorrect because the VMware adapter should be installed when you update your vApp.
To sum it up:
1. VIN is connected to vcenter, Enable VM Access" is on.
2. I can't do anything about the VIN adapter becasue it gets updated along with the VMware adapter.
3. I now know the difference between the VIN plugin and the VIN adapter. The VIN plugin seems to work fine.
4. I still don't see any application dependencies in vcops and I have no clue what the reason to this issue is.
If anyone else encounters this problem, be sure to let me know.
Thanks,
Erik Alm

JohnstonM Feb 17, 2014 3:42 AM (in response to Mauritz84)Hello Mauritz84,
I would like to help you with your problem, and I have a few questions that if you answered, would be very helpful.
Did you happen to see any information before the upgrade. Would you be able to search the logs to verify if this error message showed up after the upgrade was completed? There's a sync every hour between databases, did you happen to see any the information after the hour passed?
Would it be at all possible for you to upload the log files from vCOps and VIN?
Thanks, and I hope we can get to the cause of the issue, and correct it!

6. Re: Infrastructure Navigator 5.8 applications not presented in vC Ops 5.8
Mauritz84 Feb 18, 2014 6:32 AM (in response to JohnstonM)Hi JohnstonM,
I will try to answer these questions the best I can.
Note that I haven't performed an upgrade of vCenter Infrastructure Navigator. Because we were on version 1.1 we couldn't (according to community) upgrade to later versions but was forced to reinstall the vApp, which I did.
The deployment of the new installation were unproblematic. The vSphere plugin worked as soon as I activated VIN in vSphere web client. The plugin integrations to vcops also worked great.
I learned later that the application dependency mapping integrations between VIN and vcops was dependent on the VIN adapter. As you can see from my posts as well as my uploaded logfiles which I shared with you in my documents there are log entries that tells us that something is not configured correctly.
I haven't seen any special information during the sync hours.

Thank you for helping out!!!
If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.

JohnstonM Feb 18, 2014 7:21 AM (in response to Mauritz84)Hello Erik,
Thank you for the logs. After reviewing them, I found I had a question.
Check the following:
Open the vcops-custom interface, open the Environment Overview, click on Adapter Kinds, click on Infrastructure Navigator Adapter. Tell me how many objects you see there.
I have a feeling that the VIN Adapter is not correctly configured in your vCOps.

Michael Johnston
