    Minimum required permissions for vMotion

      hi guys

       

      Environment: Vmware 5.5

       

      I need to set a user permissions for vmotioning VMs (one cluster 8 hosts).

       

      I found the minimum permissions for Storage vMotion but not for vMotion specifically which is the one I need

       

      any idea which needs to be check in the role to let this user vMotion VMs?

          AFAIK you should enable

          Query vMotion

          Migrate powered off virtual machine(Previously known as Relocate)

          Migrate powered on virtual machine

          At thr resource. That should be enough for vMotion. Try these permissions and see if it meets your requirement.

            thanks a lot I just tested those and vMotion is working

             

             

            Resource.Query vMotion

            Resource.Migrate powered off virtual machine(Previously known as Relocate)

            Resource.Migrate powered on virtual machine
