I need to access a dial-up Modem

Hi All,

I am using win2000 as a Guest to run some old 16-bit software for a friend. The software needs to transfer stuff through a dial up modem so I bought a USB-based Modem which works fine from the Host win8 but the friend's software will not run in win8 and no suitable compatibility mode for it either.

I can't seem to get the Player to find the modem or a serial (win8 says it is on Com3) port within the Guest.

How can we get this working in win2000?

Do you attach a USB device or a serial port to the guest ?
If you use a serial port - disable Thinprint for the guest as that also uses a serial port
If you use a USB device - are you sure that you enabled USB support for the win2000 ?
