I am trying to add host on my Vcenter with it gives me error
"Add host (name) Cannot contact the specified host (10.32.xx.xx). The host may not be available on the network, a network configuration problem may exist, or the management services
on this host may not be responding."
I am not a Vm expert , can anybody help. Also I can ping the ESXi host and also login to ESXi directly from the Vspeher client.
Pls help. :smileyconfused:
We had this same issue after updating one of our hosts with the latest patches and updates.
In our case we had updated the host to 5.5 u3 prior to updating our VCenter Server. Because our VCenter was an older build of 5.5 u1, we were unable to see our host until with updated VCenter.
Hopefully this helps someone else with this same issue.
check lockdown mode on ESXi host, it should be disabled.
Check this KB article which will help you resolve the issue
Its mainly due to DNS resolution or network latency. check the KB.
Lock down mode is already in disabled state. Also I have restarted the management agents. Didn't help. Any suggestions.
Thank you.
Can you tell the versions of host and vcenter?
I am able to connect directly using HOST ip without any issue. This problem is only when I am trying to add to Vcenter.
When ESX add to VC, it pust VPXA agent on ESXi host, which is not happening in above case.
VC and ESXi are in same network or not??
Try from some other host, connect VC from remote host, try to connect ESX
Try from some other VC,if above case not work.
-A
Version 5.1.0
They are same network as I can connect in to ESXi directly from Vcenter client.
Is it a windows vcenter? If it is can you disable the firewall on the vcenter server and check again?
It is indeed Windows Vcenter but when checked , I can see firewall already disabled.
On esxi host, check /etc/opt/init.d/vmware-vpxa , and restart this servic
Can you check logs, any specific message is coming??
Thanks for suggestion, But am not an expert would be great help if you can tell me how to do it exactly.
Thanks
Detail steps:

I have the same problem. My scenario is VcenterServer STD 5.5.0 u1, I have 3 clusters without problems. In this fourty cluster I can't add a new hosts with esxi 5.5 update 3 (vmware hp version).
"Cannot contact the specified host. The host may not be available on the network, a network configuration problem may exist, or the management services on this host may not be responding"
I check:
DNS: ok
network: all servers on the same network without FWs.
Vsphere CLI: connect direct to host OK.
Restarts: restart host new, restart vcenter server, no changes.
any ideas?
Update your vCenter Server to the latest release -> 5.5.0 U3b
Just had this exact same issue and thought it was SSL related, but it turns out my vCenter was update 1 and the hosts are now update 3... The other two posters are correct: Upgrading the vCenter server to update 3 fixes this issue.
We had the same error message and issue as well. We could ping the guest and host but they couldn't ping each other. Disconnecting and reconnecting the nic on the vcenter VM fixed our issue.
hi ,
Its looks like a version incompatibility between Esxi host and Vcenter server. Are they both of the same version ? If not that might be the reason for sure. Please get it checked an update back.
