Issues Booting Server 2012 on ESXi 5.0

1.JPG

I am currently having issues building Server 2012 machines at the moment in vSphere 5.1.0, I've read alot of posts as to what fixes this, apparently there was a patch which fixed this which took you up to the above ESXi version (We have this) but we are still experiencing issues when building Server 2012 / 2012 R2 machines. We have enabled 3D acceleration (this is greyed out when you build a machine with Server 2008 R2 / Server 2012) So I tried setting the OS to Windows 7 64-Bit which did allow 3D acceleration). But still after building this I got the known "Black Screen of Death" with a command prompt box.

This generally happens after logging into the machine with the administrator, instead of showing the desktop I just get the above.

Has anyone encountered similar issues and if so, how did you manage to get around it?

Hi,

But your ESXi version is ESXi 5.0!

Am I wrong?

Hi Davoud,

This is correct yes, but we have no issues building Windows 7 / Windows 2008 R2 / Windows XP also.

I've read the documents but I didn't install WS2012 on ESXi 5.0. I did install W8 Preview Release.

It was working fine, even with VMware View and PCoIP. But if it's possible for you, upgrade to ESXi 5.1 U1.

Because it's not fully supported by ESXi 5.0.

Follow below steps :-

1. Type cmd - SConfig  >> Enter >> check if any option to get GUI. >> try that option.

2. If no option with GUI >>> exit then try below cmd...

    DISM.exe /online /enable-feature /all /featurename:NetFx4
    DISM.exe /online /enable-feature /all /featurename:MicrosoftWindowsPowerShell

powershell    (It should show PS , if not reboot server once and then see powershell  - PS)

    Install-WindowsFeature Server-Gui-Shell, Server-Gui-Mgmt-Infra

Shutdown -r     (for reboot server)  >> after reboot server will come back Smiley Happy
