I upgraded from ESXi 5.0 to ESxi 5.5 now when I ping the esx host it fails.
I was able to ping before the update. The test management network also fails to ping the default gateway.
I've sent you a private message, could you reply on that one? Got the iso done, am testing it now in my lab, but I don't have that kind of nics, so you need to do the real test for me.
ESX recognizes the NIC it is showing as being connected.
Since I can't connect through the network how do I troubleshoot this?
Welcome to the Community = You will have to use the console of the ESXi host either throught iLO/DRAC or s physical monitor and keyboard attached to the host -

What is your NIC type, is it on the HCL?
Dual Intel® 82573L Single Port Gigabit Ethernet Controller
It worked with 5.0
The ethernet card itself is not supported anymore. This may be the cause of your issue, but VMware can detect it which is rather strange.
VMware KB: Devices deprecated and unsupported in ESXi 5.5
Perhaps this will help, there seem to be others with this problem. They've outlined to steps to run a 5.0 driver for your NIC.
This thread is the same issue.
I found the following in the thread you provided.
esxcli software vib install -d /vmfs/volumes/datastore1/ESXi500-201207001.zip -n net-e1000e
esxcli software vib install -d /vmfs/volumes/datastore1/ESXi500-201207001.zip -n net-e1000
I am pretty new to esx and not really sure what this means.
are the drivers built in to esx or do I need to find them.
The drivers are built in but somehow, they aren't passing traffic. I might be able to provide you with an ISO file that you can burn on to disk and see if that works. You need to reinstall ESXi though, don't know if that's a problem?
Reinstalling is not a problem.
An ISO would be great
Thanks
