Lost network access in all VMs after 8.1 upgrade.

Today I upgraded my host machine to Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit. I did the upgrade through the Windows store. THere were no errors or problems during the upgrade.

However: The host machine has a Qualcomm E2200 network adapter, and it is running the so-called "Killer" network manager software on startup. After the 8.1 upgrade, when the machine did its final restart, The Qualcomm network manager opened with a message that the LSP was not mapped properly. I clicked "YES" to remap it. Probably a stupid move on my part.

Subsequently, I have lost all network connectivity in all my VMs. I have VMs for Windows 8, Windows 8.1 RTM (not the Preview), and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. ALL of them have lost the network.

The host machine has no network problems at all, and is running fine after the upgrade.

Any thoughts or suggestions to reset the network connections in the VMs?

All of the VMs are set to use NAT.

Oh I should also say that the host machine is running WMware Workstation 10, and everything was fine+dandy, never had any issues at all until this upgrade/LSP remap thing. I did reinstall VMware Tools in the Windows 8.1 VM, with no effect at all.

Thanks.

Two things I would try:

1. Go into the Virtual Network Editor and restore the settings. The culprit is likely how the VMNet for NAT is configured.

2. If that doesn't work, It sounds like the Virtual Adapter for the NAT is not working somehow. The simplest way to fix this is to uninstall and re-install Workstation.

Hello and THANK YOU, I used the Virtual Network Editor and that fixed it.

For anyone else having the problem, start the Virtual Network Editor, and click the button labeled "restore default" in the lower left corner.

Thanks again!

Me too. I just move my VM files to another folder. And I also cannot get IP no matter I use bridge or NAT.

Look like I took quite a long steps to solved this issues a few days ago. After the network issue persisted, I took the steps to reinstall VMWare Workstation after upgrading to Win 8.1. And it works fine after that.

I had the same issue after upgrade. Restoring default fixed it... sort of. Now I have this strange issue where random vmnic's I add isn't recognized by the guest.... go figure.

I tried restore defaults and repair as well as reinstall. Nothing seems to work! Smiley Sad

As per the attached screenshot, I tried plain NAT with firewall OFF and VMNET 8 as suggested. Not working.

Someone please help!:smileyconfused:
