Disk Space Monitoring in ESXi 3.5

Hi All,

Is there a simple way to setup email alerts on disk space thresholds for ESXi hosts? We have recently had a situation where a VM is sized to fit the available space but a snapshot has been created which then obviously begins to fill more space. We had the problem that the snapshot filled all available space and the host bricked taking down a number of vital VM's.

Simple disk space monitoring would have prevented this or at least alerted us to the problem.

Is this something that can be setup with ESXi or is this functionality only available with ESX?

Thanks in advance

Gordon

It's no feature of 3.5. There is a new storage tab feature in 4.0 though and some more alarms you can use. Veeam Monitor is also a great solution, and it's free,

Another (not simple) solution is build your own script with PowerShell (or other script tools) or use 3th part monitoring software (using SNMP).

Hi marcoastegiano, thank you for mentioning Veeam!

Just a quick update - Veeam Monitor is now a part of another monitoring, reporting and capacity planning solution. This product has a free edition called Veeam ONE Free. Despite the fact that Veeam ONE Free provides a subset of the functionality of the paid edition, it can send notifications of alarms.

You can download Veeam ONE Free here (with no expiration date): http://www.veeam.com/virtual-server-management-one-free.html

Please let me know if any questions will appear.
