Error installing Kali Linux

I have downloaded and installed Kali Linux in oracle box. I cannot get it to install in VMware workstation. I included a screenshot of the error in the doc here. It states "Detect and mount CD-ROM" "The CD-ROM does not seem to contain a valid 'Release' file, or that file could not be read correctly."

I would prefer to use VMware workstation but I cant find a fix for this problem nor the cause. Any help would be appreciated.

Might you actually mean VirtualBox!? Smiley Wink

Did you validate the SHA1 checksum of the ISO Image you downloaded against its published SHA1SUMS?

Have you tried using Legacy Emulation?  Have a look at: Configure Legacy Emulation Mode for a DVD or CD-ROM Drive

Are you aware there is a Kali Linux VMware Image (i386-pae) available? (11-Mar-2013 21:46 3.0G)  (Or as a Torrent: kali-linux-1.0-i386-gnome-vm.tar.gz.torrent)

Otherwise...

What Host Hardware and OS?

What version VMware Workstation?

Exact name of the Kali Linux Image you downloaded?

Did you validate its SHA1 checksum?

BTW When attaching screen shots it's preferred they be in a format that can be easily and directly opened in the Browser, e.g. .png, .jpg, .gif, .pdf or .tiff, not an MS Word Document type (.doc, .docx, .rtf)! Smiley Wink

BTW I just downloaded the kali-linux-1.0.4-amd64.iso image via Kali Linux 1.0.4 64-Bit Torrent, validated the SHA1 checksum of the ISO Image against its published SHA1SUMS, and installed it in a Debian 6 64-bit Virtual Machine under VMware Workstation 9.0.2 using default settings.  It installed fine and runs as expected without having to do anything special.  So, it does work as advertised (so to speak) and why you can install it under (assuming) VirtualBox and not VMware Workstation remains a mystery.

Thanks WoodyZ for the replies! I somehow overlooked the Kali Linux VMware Image (i386-pae) and got that to work for me. I have no Idea how the kali-linux-1.0.4-amd64.iso works in VirtualBox but I keep getting the error in VMware Workstation. It shall remain a mystery I guess lol.

Download the ISO of Kali Linux and Mount this your Guest VM as Kali Linux is Debian based so you have to select Debian either you download the 32-bit or 64-bit. But choose it wisely what architecture you download from there website.
