Fusion 6 and MacBook Pro Retina support - still useless

Ok - so Fusion 5 and Retina Display was poor.  Either everything was tiny, or a manual workaround made the mouse movements in Win7 practically unusable and also certain icons still remained tiny in certain places within Fusion.  And I had to apply and remove this workaround each time I needed to go in to Fusion.  This was no good.

Just upgraded to V6 and it's the same - ie, tiny or very pixelated (when it's perfect in OS X) graphics.  So, from what I can see nothing has changed.

So, if you're upgrading for better Retina support, think again.  Unless, however, there is something that I've missed (quite possible); un which case fill me in please.

My Win7 environment isn't tiny or pixelated - it looks almost identical on my retina screen as it does on my external monitor (I can even drag the window between the two).

Do you  have both the 'use full resolution' and 'adjust ui elements' turned off?

Hi - here are my VM Fusion display settings:

VM_Display.jpg

Ticking (or unticking) the lower option makes no difference.  The current settings were done by the VM Fusion support guy on Fri night.  Also, he couldn't see any way to get an acceptable picture; ie he couldn't get a clarity in Fusion to match that of OSx.

This is my OSx display setting:

And if you uncheck that 'use full resolution' you don't get a reasonably crisp screen?

I do have my retina set to scaled (one up from the base size) - maybe that's the difference?

If I uncheck that box the re point size is the same as in OSx and Win 7 but all images are horribly pixelated.  Here are two screenshots; though not sure if this will show enough detail.

Retina setting on, Win7 Control Panel 'Display' at 150%.

With default settings; very pixelated but everything is a more useful size

Hmmm, I definitely don't see that.  Are the icons pixelated or just the background?

Everything is pixelated.

But ... Fusion called me yesterday as they've been doing some more research on this.

Latest settings:

- There is a Win 7 option to set the DPI manually, so I'm now at 200% rather than the max value shown of 150% (without accessing the advanced settings).

- Fusion 'Display' is set to still use Retina.  The "automatically adjust user ..." is not ticked.

- The mouse (in Win 7) needed approx 10 times the effort to get across the screen so mouse pointer speed now set to maximum

The screen now looks great for most of the time - sharp font and graphics with a point size to match OSx - need a few days to use it and see that drop-downs in different products render ok etc.

What a pain.  Hopefully it's done with.  Otherwise I'll have to buy Win 8.1

Thanks vanRijn, your simple steps worked for me to get my Win7 x64 resolution back to where it was prior to the Fusion 6 upgrade.  Thanks!

I have a MacBookPro 2013 year, 13 inches.

I upgraded to Fusion 6.0 and I have Win 7 on it. It was a 5.0 machine which upgraded easily to 6.0 / hw 10.

Honestly, the retina support looks cool to me. I go with 1680x1050 and nothing is pixelated. When I use Visual Studio, I go up to 1920x1080 and everything's well visible.

I had to enter these lines in the preference file in order not to lose the chosen config everytime I exited the VM or resized from full screen:

pref.autoFitGuestToWindow = "FALSE"

pref.autoFitFullScreen = "stretchGuestToHost"

So my question: how does Win8 support retina better? 😮
