http://vapp-updates.vmware.com/vai-catalog/index.html is not a valid virtual appliance download URL

I have just installed update manager 5.1

I am trying to get the download settings working and download patch definitions

in the download settings section, the download source for virtual appliances shows as not connected

when I try and download, my status gets to 50% and then fails with error

Cannot download patch definitions.

the problem is this

http://vapp-updates.vmware.com/vai-catalog/index.html is not a valid virtual appliance download URL

anyone know how to resolve?

the status for the hostupdate esx components says connected

Well if you don't need that, you could always uncheck that particular url in the update manager configuration page (download settings)

Also there is a test connection button in that page, do you get any error on clicking that?

I want the app updates but, I have replication installed and would like to keep it up to date

when I test the connection I get the following

The following URLs could not be accessed:

http://www.vmware.com

The following URLs have been successfully accessed:

http://www.microsoft.com

the server has internet access and can access both sites through the browser fine?

Do you have a proxy and have it configured in the Update manager?

Only other thing that comes to mind is firewall... are the required ports for VUM open?
