I have problems whit nvidia quadro 4000. The vib driver is instaled and i tested whit multiple kernels of esxi 5.1. In all the test de xorg service don´t start when i intalled the vib driver. I reed that the problem is the nvidia driver whit the amd plataform. This is truth?
I start Xorg ok this morning and install a windows 7 whit 3d . The gpuvm command present ok the host.
I restart the server and Xorg is started and driver it´s ok but gpuvm command don´t present nothing. The machine that I instaled don´t boot.
I don´t know what happening whit the server. Can you help me? please.
Hello Everyone, I have an issue with the xorg service as well in a IBM x3500M4 host with an NVIDIA QUADRO 4000 card is installed.
-driver is installed
-set nvidia q4000 as secundary adapter
device list is ok. Nvidia is visible in vmware vpshere client and in shh as well
-vmware esxi version is 5.1.u1 1065491
-view version is 5.2.0 build-987719.
gpuvm said nothing
nvidia-smi said "failed to initialized NVRM: unknown error"
Please attach Xorg.log, its located under /var/log if I remember correctly.
That should give us some more clues.
Also post your SR-number.
Hello Linjo, I have the same issue with my Quadro 4000 card with ESXi 5.1u1. Can you please take a look on my last post? Many Thanks!
From the log its quite obvious, you have not attached the required PCIe power cables to the card.
Yes . Thanks for the commment. When I saw it yesterday than I plugged it and check the result. I've seen in the vmkernel log that the driver is loaded successfully, but the xorg service still not running. And I can not start it.
Unfortunately there is not any new log item in the log, thats why I've attached that screenshot I have.
Actually I dont know why I have no log. I rebooted the host a few times, but it not solved yet.
I've checked all my VMs in the host is vm hw 9.
I've checked about new patches with update manager and it looks like there is no new patch available, so it is up-to-date.
I tried to download and install new IBM CIM update bundle for this server, (as it suggested in this post earlier) but its not helped on me. Card is still visible, drivers and moduls are loaded, but the xorg service is stopped.
What do you think?
I found something. Xorg said in the last log file( that hasn't been refreshing since saturday) that noscanout mode is enabled. Maybe xorg stopped itself to scan devices and run???
Can you help me how can I switch it back to enable?
Is this make sense?
hello Japi007, your xorg.log was good for me, becuase I informed from this that you have also set noscanout mode none, but xorg is started.
At the moment I cant start xorg, and it looks like the cause is the module name=none parameter. In the documentation the modul name sais about modul name nvidia.
Can someone put me a result of "esxcli hardware pci list –c 0x0300 –m 0xff" to here?
Hello Balazs, see the logs at the end because the first problem that i have it's that xorg doesn't start. I want to edit the xorg.conf.nvidia but i didn't see the value noscanout mode none.
Hello Japi007, can you send me your result of "esxcli hardware pci list –c 0x0300 –m 0xff"
I am intereted about the "module name= ..." row.
Hello Balaz, I attach all the commands. You can see the xorg status nvidia driver and the gpuvm "nothing". I see this in my xorg logs: VGA arbiter: cannot open kernel arbiter, no multi-card support.I guess that the problem is that Xorg detects two graphics cards.
I see the line you tell me: Option "UseDisplayDevice" set to "none"; enabling NoScanout. I see the two pci´s in the Xorg logs (I think that this is the problem):

Hello Ballaz, if you insert correctly the power cables it´s possible that the power supply doesn´t have enough power for the Nvidia Card. The card have a led near to the power pciexpress cable if she turn green the target have good power. If the led is red it´s possible that the power supply doesn´t have enough power. You can test this whit another power supply only for the nvidia card.
Hello Japi, thanks, I saw that you have
Module ID: 74
Module Name: nvidia
written in the hardver info for nvidia quadro 4000. So for you the hardware paired to the loaded nvidia module. I'll try to reinstall and replug my card. And test also your suggested power led test. Thanks!
