Esxi host unable to connect Vcenter server 5.1

Hi Support Team,

We are trying to connect the host from Vcenter server. However it is giving the below error message.

""License not available to perform the operation. The host is licensed with VMware vSphere 5 Essentials. The license edition of vCenter Server does not support VMware vSphere 5 Essentials.""

We have explicitly copied the license key in host, also adding the license key while adding the host in Vcenter server. But getting same error message as above.Capture.jpg

Please find the attached screen shot for error messages.

could you please provide the solution for this ASAP?

Thanks & Regards,

Raghav.

You clearly installed the wrong ESXi, on your screenshot we can seen product : VMware vSphere 5 Hypervisor, it should be VMware vSphere 5 [Version Licensied].

VMware vSphere 5 Hypervisor means you have downloaded the ESXi Hypervisor free. This hypervisor couldn't be add to a vCenteR.

As you can see on my screenshot.

Sorry , but you need to download the good iso available here and re-install your host.   Link to download here :VMware vSphere 5: Private Cloud Computing, Server and Data Center Virtualization

After you will able to add it on your vCenter.

Julien.

Can you do one last thing in your VC Click Home->Administration->Licensing and clear any previous vSphere license installed.

The then add your vSphere license before adding your host to VC using Manage vSphere Licenses.

It appears, when you added the host initially you were using 60 day evaluation license and everything was working fine. (except evaluation warning). Now you are trying to add a FREE ESXi license which will not work with the vcenter.

The free version of hypervisor cannot be managed by a vcenter. You would need atleast ESXi standard license for your host to be able to add to vcenter.

Hi,

Did you upgrade your ESXi5.0 using vcenter update manager , or a fresh install of ESXi5.1?

Julien.

Ok, so for me, you put the wrong iso on your host sorry. But screenshot show us that you are currently using ESXi Hypervisor free.

You need to reinstall using the correct iso.

Julien.

The .iso's are identical... Its all about the license.. Try to compare the checksum value for the various versions... An example:

Enterprise Plus SHA1SUM: cda926182ea45d549994abaef134563c76c44c75

Hypervisor Free SHA1SUM: cda926182ea45d549994abaef134563c76c44c75

/Rubeck
