Can't convert my physical machine to a VM because it's UEFI

I've attached the message I get from VMware Workstation.  What exactly would I need to do in order to create a VM from my physical machine?

Did Windows 8 come preinstalled on the computer you're trying to image?  If yes you may not virtualize it or transfer it to another system.  Otherwise you'll have to use other methods since as the message states "Conversion of live computers with EFI firmware is not supported."! Smiley Wink

I did a clean install of W8 Pro x64 myself.  Drive is also GPT.  Does VMWare have any plans to support EFI/GPT?

I'd assume so however VMware typically does not discuss unannounced features, time lines, etc. per their company policy.  So I guess it's a wait and see when although a partial quote from What's New in the VMware Workstation Technology Preview 2013.

New Converter - This Workstation Technology Preview includes a preview of the next version of VMware Converter.   The Converter enables users to make Physical machines virtual.  This version of the Converter includes support the following enhancements:

  • Guest operating system support for Microsoft Windows 8 and Microsoft Windows Server 2012
  • Support for virtual and physical machine sources with GUID Partition Table (GPT) disks
  • Support for virtual and physical machine sources with Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI)

So I'd imagine we'll see it in the VMware vCenter Converter Standalone in the next major release, just can't say for sure when it will be! Smiley Wink
