    Ability to disable Backups / Uploads

    The Don Novice

      Current situation:

      Upload Policies are mandatory. Therefore no matter what upload time you define, you'll have backups for all machines in any case.

      Feature request:

      Ability to create a "No Backup" or "No Upload" Policy.

      Use Case:

      For example if you have kiosk machines or teaching class rooms that just need to have an image and some app layers, you don't really care about backups. Once you're finished with a training or if a machine brakes, then you just re-provision the Base-Layer.

      Best Regards,

      Don

          Hi Don,

          We can give you guidelines on how to set up an upload policy that's "empty", ie almost no data is uploaded or backed up. I'm waiting for a template from engineering but as soon as I get it, I'll post.

            Here's an empty policy xml file. You can import this into your Mirage Server by using the Wanova.Server.Cli.Exe from C:\Program Files\Wanova\Mirage Server and using the AddUploadPolicy command. The key here is the directory path in the unprotected area. Hope that helps.

                 <Configuration>
                      <UploadChangesIntervalMs>599940000</UploadChangesIntervalMs>
                      <FullUploadChangesIntervalSeconds>0</FullUploadChangesIntervalSeconds>
                      <TreatUserAreaAsMachine>true</TreatUserAreaAsMachine>
                 </Configuration>
                 <UnprotectedArea>
                      <IncludeList>
                           <Directory path="%anyvolume%" recursive="true" filter="*"/>
                      </IncludeList>
                      <ExcludeList/>
                 </UnprotectedArea>
                 <UserArea>
                      <IncludeList/>
                      <ExcludeList/>
                 </UserArea>
                 <Volumes IncludeSystemVolume="false"/>
            </DesktopPolicy>

              Hi Sachin!

              Thanks a lot for posting this empty Upload Policy! It will certainly help in the meantime, while working on current projects.

              However I think it would be "nice" to have an option to completely disable this function.

              ... Just to have a "clean" solution. :-)

              Thanks again and all the best,

              Don
