Installing Win8 64-bit guest

Hello All;

I have VMWare Player installed on a Win7 64-Bit system.
I am trying to install Win8 64-Bit OS, and it gave me a few errors.
Checking out the link that it gave me, I downloaded the test tool, and this is what it states:

---------------------------
VMware 64-bit Compatibility Check Passed
---------------------------
This host is capable of running a 64-bit guest operating system under this
VMware product.

---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

So, according to the compatibility test, my system passes.
However, I cannot install win8

These are the 2 errors that I receive (or) messages.

This is the first error:

---------------------------
Windows 8 - VMware Player
---------------------------
Binary translation is incompatible with long mode on this platform. Disabling long mode. Without long mode support, the virtual machine will not be able to run 64-bit code. For more details see http://vmware.com/info?id=152.

[ ] Do not show this hint again
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

This is the 2nd one

---------------------------
Windows 8 - VMware Player
---------------------------
This virtual machine is configured for 64-bit guest operating systems. However, 64-bit operation is not possible.

This host supports Intel VT-x, but Intel VT-x is disabled.

Intel VT-x might be disabled if it has been disabled in the BIOS/firmware settings or the host has not been power-cycled since changing this setting.

(1) Verify that the BIOS/firmware settings enable Intel VT-x and disable 'trusted execution.'

(2) Power-cycle the host if either of these BIOS/firmware settings have been changed.

(3) Power-cycle the host if you have not done so since installing VMware Player.

(4) Update the host's BIOS/firmware to the latest version.

For more detailed information, see http://vmware.com/info?id=152.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Any idea's on this issue?
Thanks for your assistance in advance.

The guest64check tool cannot check for BIOS settings, because it runs in user mode.   Your system probably can run 64-bit guests, but it may require BIOS  configuration changes.

VT-d is for I/O virtualization.  VT-x is for CPU virtualization.  If you have VT-d, then you also have VT-x.  It may be listed as something else in your BIOS, such as "virtualization technology."  The BIOS setting to enable/disable this feature may be hidden under a "security" tab.

Welcome to the Community - Did you review the links provided in the error messahe? Longmode and VT-x are accessable in form the COmputers BIOS menu.

You might wonder why you passed the check - it is because it just checks to see if the processor is 64 bit =

If that is the case of the software hardware test tool, I think they might want to recode it, to actually look for the hardware that is needed instead.

As for the BIOS, I have gone in, and I have VT-d, I do not have VT-x
I read up on it, and for what my understanding is, is that the VT-d is the better of the 2, according to a write up on Intel's site.

Does any of the products from vmware, run on the VT-d?

I am having to reinstall my system.
During bootup, I had to go into the BIOS.
I went over to the Power Management tab.
And within there, I found it.
I have it enabled, and I ran the Microsoft "Hardware-Assisted Virtualization Detection Tool"
It PASSED!!!!

I am happy now.
Going to reinstall the system, and tomorrow I will install Win8 64-Bit instead of the 32-Bit like I had to do yesterday.

Enjoy.

"Power management," huh?  That's a new one, and even less pertinent than "security."  It's hard to know where these settings are going to be hidden.
