Hello - we get the error "The Microsoft Runtime DLL installer failed to complete the installation.
" when we try to install Vmware tools on Windows 7 and Windows 2003. We haved googled and tried what we could find. But nothing helped. What can we do to get the tools installed.

Hello. Yes we tried the KB, and it did't help. But uninstalling Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.30729.4148 did the trick. BTW - we are using ESXi 5.0.

Same install package was giving me this error as well. For me it was Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable as part of Microsoft 2008 Reporting Services for my WSUS server.

I had the same problem when trying to install VMware Tolls on a new setup Windows XP SP3 all up-to-date.

My solution was downloading and reinstalling Microsoft Windows Installer 4.5 for Windows XP.

Same issue here.

All I did to fix it was to create a new Administrator login and use that..... worked like a charm.
