VMWare Fusion 5 Windows Crashing with Google Chrome

I am currently running a trial on VMWare Fusion 5 on my new Retina Macbook Pro.

I have 2 machines running in total, but not always at the same time. One is a windows 7, the other a windows 8 installation.

They work fine most of the time but I have now had crashes on both machines that shut down the vm. I have come to realise that this occurs when using Google Chrome and hitting some pages. The symptoms are the same on both machines.

I have attached the crash report for the windows 8 pc.

Obviously I cant continue to use these when doing such a trivial task causes a severe crash as Im afraid of losing data before too long.

If anyone could help I woud be most grateful.

Thanks.

I am experiencing the very same thing today. I installed the update for Fusion yesterday, but only today did I start experiencing this behavior. I was able to readily reproduce this on my Windows 7 Enterprise VM by starting an application (SoapUI) and then hitting the maximize window button. I was able to reproduce this several times.

The last crash I just experienced happened when I just started another application, which was launching fine before...!

Crash files attached - please help - I'll echo the sentiment that this is making my VM all but unusable!!

I also have the same exact issue: Random crashes just after the upgrade to 5.0.2;  I had to downgrade back to 5.0.1;

Here is the crash file

Anyone from VMware monitoring this thread ?

This is pretty basic operation and it does keep on crashing all the time.

We already have two massive threads covering the topic: and

If you are running a mid-2012 MacBook Pro with the latest Apple updates, you'll likely encounter crashes unless you disable 3D graphics.  If you only run Windows VMs, you also have the option of reverting to Fusion 5.0.1.

We're busily investigating the issue, which only arose with the release of Apple's MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Update 2.0 late last week.  Sorry for the trouble!

Thanks for the quick reply.

Just to let you know that I re-installed 5.0.1 and it's all fine with it.

I have exactly the same. I moved my Fusion 5.0.2 (not a trial) from my previous MacBook Pro to a new Retina MacBook Pro. My VM is a Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 (probably French).  I have reinstalled Fusion 5.0.2 again and I have reinstalled my VMware Tools. But still Google Chrome crashes Fusion. I even got a BlueScreen. I hadn't seen one of those in a while ;-). This is a serious problem. I hope the attached file can help. I have also tried to go back to 5.0.1, but that didn't seem to help. It seems that the issue is related to the Retina MacBook Pro, since it worked fine before.

Thanks

Add me to the list.  Fusion 5.0.2 (9000491 - also not a trial) on a Macbook Pro with Retna display.  Chrome will install and then the VM will crash moments later.

Hello,

Would like to inform you that even the trial version of Fusion is 100% complete software. There is no any limitations or feature flaws in the trial version. It is as the actual software itself. Regarding the crashes please go to virtual machine settings >Display >and turn off the 3D acelatration. Ensure that while you are doing this the virtual machine should be turned off. For more info please go through this trail :

I have the same problem. New MacBook Pro, Fusion 5.0.2, Windows 8. Just bought fusion so it would have been nice to have a seamless experience (with 3D acceleration on), but unfortunately not. An actual fix would be greatly appreciated!

If I turn off the 3D acelatration in VM, the Chrome with WIN7 will be work fine.

But I do need to test 3D. That's why I need a Windows VM in the first place.

This problem seems to be resolved with Mac OS X update 10.8.3 (perhaps in conjunction with Fusion 5.0.3). Chrome is no longer crashing with 3D Graphics enabled.

OS X 10.8.3 resolves the crashing issue on nVidia based Macs. VMware Fusion 5.0.3 includes some other fixes and improvements, both are recommended.
