Dragging Workstation VM to ESXi I get "Upload failed: Invalid OVF name (bridged) specified in net mapping..."

I get "Upload failed: Invalid OVF name (bridged) specified in net mapping" when I try to drag a Workstation 9 VM to ESXi 5.1.  In theory, this should work, and I did try it with another VM that was a fresh install of FreeBSD 9.1.  Difference between this and the 9.1 VM.
1.  I used an older version for the Workstation 9 import so that I could send it back to and ESXi 4 server.
2.  The FreeBSD 9.1 machine had one NIC, this machine has two NICs, and the current host has one NIC.  On the other hand, it imported into Workstation 9 fine.  It just won't go from Workstation 9 to ESXi 5.1 like the FreeBSD 9.1 did.

Thanks!

Simplify your vmx-file.
Then OVF  does not have to decide itself what to make out of a vmx-parameter that is unknown to ESXi.

Define only this parameters - comment the others while creating the ovf

ethernet0.generatedAddress = "00:50:56:93:13:5a"
ethernet0.present = "true"
ethernet0.virtualDev = "vmxnet3"

It came back with a VERY helpful error this time.  "Upload Failed: A specified parameter was not correct."  LOL!

I had the same issue, same versions as above.  For network adapter, I unchecked 'Connect at power on' in the source VM settings and bingo!  Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I had the same issue and I just put the NIC in bridged mode instead of being in LAN Segment. That worked for me.

Had same issue:  Remove NIC then perform upload.  Add NIC after upload complete.

Perfect! Worked after simplifying the vmx file.

"I just had to remove   the entry

ethernet0.networkName =..."

from the .vmx file and it worked.

Obviously an aspect resulting from rather old  images that somebody converts into an up to date vSphere..
