Volunteers needed: 2012 Mac users affected by 10.8.2 update issue

We're looking for help from a few forum users that are affected by the 10.8.2 update issue. This issue causes the virtual machine to crash when using certain Windows applications that make use of 3D. This issue we're working on is only found on certain models of 2012 Mac, notably the 15" Mac Book Pro. Older Macs are not affected.

We're looking in to workarounds for the underlying issue and will shortly have a experimental software build containing those workarounds. If you've previously participated in a VMware Fusion beta program and are prepared to provide feedback on this build, please drop me a Private Message with the following information:

For what it is worth I have discovered that the bug is triggered by the default window manager/desktop enviornment in Ubuntu (Unity/Gnome).  I installed KDE, switch for my user account, and found that I can tun acceleration back on.

It's not a great solution but if you are comfortable with other window managers it does get the job done (it might also help give VMware a tip if they still have not found the bug).

I have installed Debian 6.0 Squeeze (current stable) and Debian 7.0 Wheezy (current testing) in Fusion 5.0.2

Both work out of the box with 3D accel enabled.

So I was thinking that the problem may be in libmesa 9.0, version provided by ubuntu 12.10.

Debian 7 provides mesa 8 and Debian 6 uses 7.11 (or something similar, I'm at work and my mac is home).

I discovered that the problem is triggered when the next DRI module is loaded:

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/vmwgfx_dri.so

So, indeed, whenever an application tries to use accelerated 3D, vmware fusion will crash.

It works around at least some of the cases but we're looking for feedback on whether all combinations of h/w, OS version and Java version have been addressed.

Has anyone heard any updates to this?  Its been at least a couple months, the performance is lagging here.  Shocked there isnt at least a beta or a "try this" or anything from VMware... Just wondering if I missed anything or what the current situation is.
