Regarding custom portal

Hey guys,

I need to build a custom portal for my vcloud director to showcase it to one of the clients and i'm not from development background. I have a friend with me who knows how to code and work with java. Is that enough to leverage the API's to build a custom portal? Is there a reference or has someone done and had a clue? Please help me with this as its really important for me. I want to just include all the things vCD can do in the UI to the custom portal. Like creating a new vAPP and so on. Please help.

This is a pretty common thing to do and Java is well supported with the SDK. Having experience with Java can mean a lot of different things but if he has used Java to build web apps before (like J2EE), he should be good to go.

It would be interesting to know what Java frameworks people use for their VCD Portals. JBOSS, Struts, Spring, etc?

As i told you i'm not too sure. Will ask my colleague who is helping me and let you know. Can the whole thing be done in just two weeks?

Completely duplicate the functionality of the VCD GUI in two weeks? No, I don't think so.

VMware just released a new Fling which might help with building a simplified custom portal which uses HTML5, CSS and Javascript. Take a look at this article for more details http://blogs.vmware.com/vsphere/2013/02/project-silverlining-a-vcloud-director-5-1-sdk-for-javascrip...
