Is it possible to diable / bypass the Intel VT-x check in Workstation v9.x?

Hello all,

I have commented in a related question, but wanted to start a new question as well. Please forgive the duplication.

I have an Intel box that DOES support Intel VT-x, but it is disabled and the abilitiy to change it is not exposed in the BIOS.

I am looking for a vmx file switch / parameter that will allow me to run Win 7 64-bit guest OS.

I have contacted the manufacturer to see if there are any plans to update the BIOS to expose this or patches to enable it as I am running the most current BIOS available.

If anyone has ideas or suggestions, I'd appreciate your input.

It cannot be done. With the VT-X disabled from the BIOS, Workstation will not be able to use it and run 64 bit VMs.

Most of the time the options are there in the BIOS but overlooked. The vendor should be able to guide you on how to enable it.

Download aand flash the laatest BIOS directly from the motherboard manufactors site,  for   example asus.com or gigabyate.com.  You can find out all the inforamltion you need by using a free utility like CPUS-Z (there ar emany others.  Flashing the BIOS is not as scary as it used to be.

What is your laptop or computer model? There must be an option somewhere in the BIOS , it might be a sub menu in the main menu , can you post pics about your BIOS pages?

The OP has two very relevant statements "I have an Intel box that DOES support Intel VT-x, but it is disabled and the abilitiy to change it is not exposed in the BIOS." and "I have contacted the manufacturer to see if there are any plans to update the BIOS to expose this or patches to enable it as I am running the most current BIOS available." so it certainly sounds like rulmer is on top of this issue and until there is a BIOS update that will allow VT-x to be enabled it certainly looks as though the issue is as resolved as it can be and the question is already rightly marked as correctly answered!

Just to be clear, this is a custom modified computer that uses an intentionally modified and limited BIOS by the OEM. It is not a widely distributed (i.e., commercially available / consumer focused) model. It is directed at industrial manufacturing and limiting the options available enhances the manufacturers ability to support this unit in production environments.

This was not included in the original posting because I thought it would cloud the issue at hand.
