Couldn't deploy vSphere Replication OVF

Hi,

I'm trying to deploy VMware-vSphere_Replication-5.1.0.1-885064.ova. I can select local file source and I can review details and accept EULAs. I can select name and folder. But after selecting storage (nevermind which one) validating runs for a long time and it ends with "cURL error: Couldn't connect to server" message. The same on both nodes of cluster.

We're running VMware vCenter Server Appliance 5.1.0.5100.

Any idea, please?

Tomas

Hi Tomas,

I'll dig this further, but is it an option to try build 5.1.0.5300 available at https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/details?downloadGroup=VCL-VSP510-VC-510B-EN&productId=285&rPId=3356?

Thanks for your reply.

I've tried to update to vCenter 5.1.0.5300 Build 947940 twice but both times it finished with "Failed to install updates (Error while running installation tests)" message 😞

I've used built-in update procedure via web interface as the last time.

The same after rebooting vCenter. Both vCenter update and VR OVF deploy crashing.

You can open an SR for this and provide logs of the VC and the web client.

Also make sure that the dns name of the VCVA is resolvable from your machine, otherwise it most probably ends with the error you hit.

By the way, did you have experience with previous version of the VMware vSphere Web Client on the same machine/browser? If yes, could you try clearing your browser's cache, because it could be too aggressive on caching flash movies.

Meantime, if it is doable, can you try a fresh installation of the VC appliance of 5300 build and try again with OVF deployment?

I've opened SR yesterdy but no answer yet. I'm not sure which logs to provide.

No problem with this VMware vSphere Web Client before (deploying VDP and update to VCSA 5.1.0.5200 Build 880472). I've tried to use FireFox instead of Chromium browser but with the same result.

I installed last build of VCSA on standalone ESXi. No success using vSphere Web Client (the same problem with deploying OVA file). In the end I used vSphere Client I'm using to access VUM and I got through. The same way I was able to deploy vSphere Replication then.

It looks like some vSphere Web Client problem. I'll try to deploy vSphere Replication in bew installed VCSA to confirm it.

Hi again,

Yes, this is definetely an issue within the Web Client as the VR is still not operating. Hope to resolve the issue soon. Will wait for the re-try with the new VC.

Is the host from which you are accessing the vCenter client able to resolve (forward and reverse) your vCenter server?

It's solved finaly. The cause was old version of VMware Tools in VCSA. After VMware Tools update (along to unsuccessful attempt to update VCSA) I was able to deploy vSphere Replication OVF in vSphere Web Client.

Old version of VMware Tools in VCSA breaks deploying OVF via vSphere Web Client .

On VMware vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA). It was possible to deploy OVF using "old" vSphere Client but not using vSphere Web Client.

go on to the vcenter server and deploy the ovf on there. I had the same issue and went crazy trying to figure this out.

I am unable to deploy the vsphere_replication 5.1.0.1-885064

virtual center server - 5.1.0 - 1123961

vsphere client version - 5.1.0 - 1064113

web client - 5.1.0 - 1063329

when I try deployment through web client, it gets stuck at selecting storage

cURL error: Couldn't connect to server

I have been able to deploy the ova file correctly however through the vcenter server

I cannot see the vsphere replication settings in web client or the vcenter server

please help

This issue is preserved in vSphere Web Client 5.1 and it could be related to few underlying issues.

See these issues and a workaround here VMware KB: Deploying an OVF template on vSphere Web Client fails with the error: Couldn't connect to...

Hi,

You need the Web client in order to see replication menus. Plus, you need to logout and login post install so that the vSphere Replication plugin is properly downloaded/installed.

I wasn't able to install it via the web console.

I installed it via the vsphere client.

I have rebooted server and still no replication menus in web client

Hi,

you have used vsphere client for the deployment, but how you have done it is important, have you connected the vsphere client to the host or to the vcenter server prior deploying?

In order to have vsphere replication working properly you need to deploy it through vcenter server.

Bobi

What error did you get when trying to install via the new web client? to be able to deploy OVF's etc (in the 5.1 release) you need to be running the browser via a windows OS. If you are running OSX then you cannot install the web client integration plugin (linked of the web client login page bottom right hand corner) which means you will not be able to deploy OVF files etc.

If you can login to the web client navigate to Administration > Plugin Management and you should see a "vSphere Replication" plugin with an "Enabled" state. If you do NOT see that you've deployed the OVF/A incorrectly or not done it via vCenter.
