Scrapping vCenter server and starting over, what will vCOps think?

So have had some major issues with our vCenter box, VMware support wasn't able to help and we are finally at the point where we just want to start over with it.

The plan was to break the link in vCOps, rebuild, add it back and go on with life.

My question is how vCOps collects its data and will it be re-creating all the objects or will it continue to collect and build on the metrics that we have been collecting for the past year.

Has anyone done this before while running vCOps?

vCops keys off the MOID of the VM, which will change if you wipe vCenter....so your old data will still be there, but all the VMs will be seen as new objects and the old data will be 'stranded'.

I was afraid of that. Looks like we are back to trying to fix vCenter.

Thanks
