vCenter Converter and v4.0.1 download?

Hi All,

New to VMPlayer, but not new to computers in general, been programmiong for 30+ years.

I am retired and would like to play a little with the VMWare Player and move a networked older PC's win2000Pro SP4 to it with the Converter.

Reading the docs here the last version of vCenter Convert to Host win2000 appears to be v4.0.1. I cannot find a link where to download it. I found a link to 4.3, but it will not host w2k.

Questions:

1:

Where can I get a download of vCenter Converter 4.0.1?

2:

Will that run from within the current version 5.0.1 of Player or do I need a v4 version of Player?

If so, where can I get that from?

Hello and welcome to the communities.

You can't get the older version of Converter from VMware. It has been retired, and is no longer offered for download. This was discussed recently - there is some info that might help in there.

Version 5.0.1 of Player will be fine for the Windows 2000 SP4 VM.

1: Where can I get a download of vCenter Converter 4.0.1?

It can be downloaded from the Download VMware vCenter Converter Standalone web page while clicking the appropriate links and buttons.

The following assumes not yet logged into your account for downloading.

• Click the Download VMware vCenter Converter Standalone link.

• Click Other versions 4.0

• Click the Download button for VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 4.3 (I know, doesn't sound right... blame VMware!)

• Log In

• Click [+] Version History - VMware Converter 4.0.1 (As shown in image below.)

Have a look at the Installation Requirements and if not met by your system then you'll need to use VMware Player 3.x.

Thanks for the welcome and the reply. I understand that 5.0.1 will be fine to run win2000, but I wanted to convert an existing win2000 PC using Convert or as I am fast learning, ColdClone.

But...

When I click the "Start Download Manager" nothing happens.

When I click Download Manually I get returned to the top of the page where it shows a message...

"You registered for this product. Your downloads are now available below."

If I click "View My Downloads" it shows it as having been downloaded, but I have yet to find it and I never got asked where to save it etc.

By the way, I installed the 5.0.1 Player, then just to test it, I installed win2000 from the original CD and it is all running sort of OK, so it sounds like this PC fits within the "Installation requirements" you pointed me to. I have now deleted that Virtual Disk in readiness for ransferring over from the other PC.

All I can tell you is the steps I presented is exactly what I did and when I got to the place shown in the image I clicked Manually Download and it downloaded the VMware-converter-4.0.1-161434.exe file to my Downloads folder.  So check the location you have set for downloaded files in your Browsers preferences and or search the HDD for a file name VMware-converter-4.0.1-161434.exe, assuming that's the one you downloaded.  If you can't find it then go through the steps again.   Note if you try the same steps after logging into your acount they may not be the same and jump to the location as show in the image.

Thanks Woody, but as you can see from my other posts, too many things not working or are going wrong.

I cannot adjust the screen resolution it is jammed at 16-colors. I tried setting to 1440 x 900 (the monitor) and it shows it in the Settings but still does not allow it to be changed within w2k Graphics options.

I installed VirtualPC and VirtualBox and both of those operate just fine with the network, screen resolution etc.

I will give up on VMWare -- again.
