Windows 8 with vmware Fusion 5 - Ethernet Adapter

     I have installed Windows 8 running on a Retina Macbook Pro via VMware Fusion 5. Everything is working except ethernet adapter. I have installed vmware tools and that fixed many of the problems, but I cannot find a driver for the ethernet adapter.  Any thoughts or anyone else having this issue?

Hi.

Yes, I'm having exactly the same issue (older hardware though, 2009 MBP 13"), sadly not figured out a solution yet.  Also had an issue where Windows 8 refused to upgrade XP because of the VMSCSI driver.

Ok, resolved, you need to remove the network adapter from the virtual machine and then add it again, full description in here :-

It's specific to Windows 7, but wish I'd seen this before I'd started the ugprade as I suspect it would have resolved a lot of the issues Smiley Happy

This did not work for me.  Windows 8 still can't find a properly installed network adaptor.  Any other ideas?

I upgraded from Win XP and then changed the VM OS type to Windows 8.

That's what I did, I then :

* Removed and reinstalled VMWare Tools

* Rebooted

Still nothing, so I then :

* Shutdown the VM

* Removed the network adapter in the VM settings

* Added a new one

* Rebooted the VM

At this point the network appeared

It's possible some of those steps can be skipped, but that's what I did.

That worked--except I had to do one extra step.  After removing the VMWare tools, I had to reboot, then install the VMware tools, and then reboot a second time.

Then the network didn't appear until I actually logged into my account.

Thanks!

Well apparently I had tried all the possible combinations of unstalling VMware tools, reinstalling, removing said adapter and readding, but I tried this and it work.

Thanks...

Multiple attempts to un/reinstall VMware Tools still didn't work for me. Found the answer here. There seem to be a few problems with the .vmx file missing entries needed for Win8.
