I am also getting the "5D" error an the vmGenCounter.enable=FALSE method did not work... anyone has a solution for this?
Seems the solution might just be - Don't use Easy Install. Try "I will nstall the opeat ing system later" and go from there. If I've said this already sorry for the duplicate - this is a 4 pages thread. If you've tried this than and the same or other errors pop up the problem needs more attention - if it works the thread is mostly done.
I found my problem... NX was disabled on my host. I enabled it and all works fine (I am using EXSi 5.0 U1).
So you installed Windows 8 via easy install after changing the host BIOS(?) setting. Interesting. I still can't recommend easy install however.
Thanks! This worked for me.
I have run into the same problem and here's my workaround:
esxi 5.0.0, build 623860
the selection "Windows 8" was used during creation of the VM, causing the splash screen ,with the blue windows image, to hang...
all I had to do was shut down the VM, ssh to the esxi box, cd to the directory that the2012 VM was working out of ( /vmfs/volumes/master/Windows2012 in my case)
edit the .vmx file, and change the
gestOS line from "Winsrv8" to
guestOS = "longhorn-64"
save the file and exit.
restart the VM..
It moved past the hung window, continued the installation, and the OS now works fine. I didn't need to restart from the beginning, just change the .vmx and reboot.the installation picks up where it left off..
changing to longhorn worked! Thanks
