Converter Standalone not prompting to install agent

I'm trying to convert a powered-on physical machine via Converter Standalone 5.0.  When I try to "View source details" or just click next in the wizard the Converter software tells me it can't contact the remote machine.

There is no firewall turned on on the client and I can remotely manage and connect to the machine so I don't believe it's a network issue.

Did I not install the Converter Standalone properly?

Converter has always prompted me to install the agent is one wasn't installed but it is not doing that in this case.  And it doesn't prompt me for any client even for a client on the same broadcast domain (same subnet/VLAN).

Am I missing something dumb? Smiley Happy

Thanks for your help,

Flux aka Andy.

Hi Flux,

first - is it Windows or Linux machine? I assume it is Windows (you mention agent deployment), in this case agent deployment uses SMB, i.e. being able to connect to the machine is not enough to dismiss network/firewall issues. Have a look here for the ports required: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=101005....

Also note that:

  simple file sharing ('sharing wizard' in recent Windowses) must be disabled at the source machine;

  you should connect as administrator to the source (i.e. the source machine must allow administrator to connect remotely)

If you connect by machine name instead of IP, check whether your DNS resolves it correctly.
