the date at the top of the script does not reflect the version. please run ./ghettoVCBg2.pl --version
from your log format, I think you have 4.x, which should not have the old session timeout issue. is anything printed on the console when you run it directly?
[root@localhost]# ./ghettoVCBg2.pl --versionvSphere SDK for Perl version: 4.1Script 'ghettoVCBg2.pl' version: 4.3nothing is printed to the console if run directly.

I've noticed that if I run ghetto manually i'm getting a "Write failed: Broken pipe" error after a few hrs during the backup process
Ich bin am 19.9. wieder im Hause. In dringenden Fällen bitte Hotline (ZSS 0911/4621-500 Mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org oder IT 0911/4621-400 ) informieren.

that's almost certainly the problem, but I'm not sure it's directly related to ghettovcb. that's generally a networking issue but can also be a storage issue.
for a manual test, do this on your largest vm:
- take a snapshot, with queisce disk option.
- enable ssh tech support mode on the host and login as root
- use vmfstools (just run it for instructions) to copy/clone your base vmdk, not the snapshot, to your backup target.
- delete snapshot when complete.
if this also errors, you have a storage issue, or for iscsi or nfs, possibly a network issue.
