Ubuntu 12.04.1 64 bit LTS as host and VM Ware Workstation 9.x 64 bit

I have a System76 Lemur Ultra Thin (lemu4) running Ubuntu 12.04.1 64 bit Long Term Service and I got VM Ware Workstation 9.0.0 64 bit two days ago. I converted my Oracle VM Virtualbox 4.1.22 64 bit .VDI disk image file to a .VMDK VM Ware disk image file and it worked. I have a Microsoft Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate Edition Service Pack 1 64 bit 50.00 GB guest virtual machine.

VM Ware Workstation 9.0.0 64 bit is telling me that no 3D graphics hardware acceleration is enabled and that I should check with my Linux distribution about OpenGL 2.1. I realize that VM Ware Workstation 9.0.0 64 bit is compatible with Ubuntu 12.04.x 32 and 64 bit Beta and OpenGL 2.1 as a guest operating system, but the problem that I am experiencing is the reverse. Ubuntu 12.04.1 64 bit LTS is my host operating system and I am trying to run Windows 7 64 bit as the guest operating system with 3D graphics hardware acceleration.

I do not have either an AMD Radeon or FirePro or NVIDIA GeForce or Quadro discrete GPU. All I have is the Intel HD Graphics 4000 built into my Intel Core i5-3210M CPU on my System76 Lemur Ultra Thin (lemu4) notebook PC. I am not dealing with closed source, proprietary, graphics drivers or Bumblebee Project whatsoeer so this should make solving this problem a bit easier and less complex.

How do I get my Windows 7 64 bit guest virtual machine to enable and use 3D graphics acceleration provided by my Intel HD Graphics 4000 in VM Ware Workstation 9.x 64 bit?

Please give me more information and knowledge that I will need to solve this problem or post a step-by-step solution for my unique case usage scenario. Thank you.

Welcome to the club!

There is a thread already running with the same question:

3D support is functional with VMware WS8...but we are all having issues with WS9.

Please let us know if you find a solution.

Thanks!
