After installing Windows Server 2012 RC VM is working fine.
After that I installed the VMware tools -> result -> black flashing screen .
Booting in F8 mode -> try to remove VMware tolls -> not installed ??
What can I do to recover this black flashing screen .
Not 100% sure but I'd suggest you to check/download the vmtools package here: http://packages.vmware.com/tools

I suffered from this too in VM Workstation 8.0.2.
Removing the VM graphics adapter from device manger fixed it for me (I chose to remove the driver files).
Let us know if it works for you.
Cheers.
No, removing the drivers is not the solution -> It doesn't worked for me.
I downloaded the new tools according recommendations of SAM and installed these -> problem was gone.
I reinstalled a new server with default VMware tools -> same error -> blinking not accessable screen
Reverted to SAM's solution -> problem solved.
used iso VMware-tools-windows-x64-8.6.5-621624.ISO
Thanks SAM,
cheers.

Hello again,
After uninstalling VM tools completely, then installing v.8.6.5 I get the same issue. Anyway, that is a downgrade from the version installed with Workstation 8.0.3 (my version), which is v.8.8.2.
Perhaps the differences in our experience are attributable to the fact that I have not performed a clean install of the OS, or maybe the different products we are using. I will move my contributions to the Workstation forums instead.
Thanks,
Conan.
thanks, this fixed my issue. was stuck at a blank screen with no logon prompts after attempting to install vmtools.
Agobum's solution worked for me.
Abogum's solution worked for me too. I've never had a problem be fixed by turning ON the 3d acceleration before! My problem was actually on Fusion 4, not ESXi5, but same thing worked. Thank you!
Your instructions helped me too. Thanks Agobum. You're the man!
Worked for me, thanks! I converted a 2012 R2 server P2V, and when I installed VMware Tools, it installed ok and the NIC driver worked for the vmnetx3 NIC, but in vSphere client, it said VMware Tools was not installed, and my display adapter wasn't letting me set a different screen res. Each of these issues were fixed by installing this build of VMware Tools. Thanks again!
