Is it supported to run UMDS and VUM in same database?

Hi,

i've seen a setup where UMDS uses the exact same database as the update manager which is installed on the vCenter server. Since it is working this way, is this also a case of using different tables which is why it works?

Would it be better to have separate databases?

According to uushaggy one should use a different database:

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Neal

Hi

You can use the same database for UMDS and VUM as i've done that exact thing for a customer engagement i'm currently on.

If your interested i blogged about it and some of the pains and learning curves I had along the way:

Thanks for the quick reply. i'll be having a look at your blogpost tomorrow.

We've decided to use a separate database after all, just to keep things cleaner. Shouldn't make a big difference performance-wise (i hope ;-)).

For anyone who got here searching for the answer, i stumbled upon this in the official VMware documentation today:

"vCenter Update Manager also requires a database. VMware recommends that you use separate databases for vCenter Server and vCenter Update Manager."
