can i vmotion between different HBAs

Hi,

Just a quick question.

I have 2 ESX servers.

one ESX has a Qlogic and the other Emulex HBA.

can i do a storage vmotion between these ESX servers ?

Remember virtualization virtualizes the physical storage - so as long as the HBAs connect to the same storage as the others have said there should be no issue vmotioning -

Yes , type of HBAs or type of Storage arrays do not affect Storage Vmotion.

don't see any issues with that (as also mentioned above).

The limitations of NPIV as documented here - http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-4-esxi-embedded-vcenter/index.jsp?topic=/com.vmware.vsphere.config_fc...

NPIV supports vMotion. When you use vMotion to migrate a virtual machine it retains the assigned WWN.

NPIV does not support Storage vMotion.
