multi-writer?

Hi For all!

i have this:

vm1:

scsi sharing in multi-writer and mounted disk

vm2:

received disk in share (multi-writer) vm and mounted

But not writing at same time, only when mount/umount the disk,  all step in documentation its ok!

I will install and use ORACLE ASM in this vms

Questions:

1 - Only ASM control (writer in disk) this in direct raw device ?

2 - I cannot writer and see at the same time using S.O (RedHat 6.2) ?

vmware in last version Smiley Wink

Tks for help Carlos

I have no expertise in Oracle RAC, and do not really understand your questions, but there is a good chance that you find answers to your questions in this white paper: http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/partners/oracle/vmware-oracle-rac-deploy-guide.pdf

You can use multi-writer disks with any VM regardless of the OS and applications that run inside them.

However, the guest OS, the filesystem and the applications that you use must be able to handle shared access to a disk. Otherwise you will experience data corruption.

So, what's your purpose? For what do you want to use multi-writer mode?

My question its answered for you and in this document:

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=100278...

The application ASM for Oracle will control RW in RDM mode, vm1 and vm2 (S.O) dont writer at same time in raw device only!!!  Need clustering

application software to this Smiley Wink

For other guest to visit this post in attach the document to create the MULTI-WRITER disk

I am visualizing ORACLE RAC on vSphere 6.0 VSAN datastore using this following this article VMware KB: Using Oracle RAC on vSphere 6.x VSAN Datastore . In every ORACLE RAC VM, the SCSi controller type is VMware Paravirtual and SCSI bus sharing is Physical in which shared disks are connected. When I am trying to add multi-writer flag in Edit virtual machine settings> VM Options > Advanced> Edit Configuration, the flag does not persist when I view the same configuration parameter list. I have tried both in vsphere Client and Web client, even tried with vi editor and echo command to add the parameter manually in vmx file in the host in which the vm is registered. But one strange thing happens - if i write the syntax wrong (e.g an extra colon or double quotation is added) then it persist. Can anyone help pls.
