A bunch of VMSN files under VM folders ... How can I delete these files ?

Hi !

I have 4 VMs having around 300 vmsn files 20KB big. I would like to know how can I get rid of these files ?

There's NO SNAPSHOT in the SNAPSHOT MANAGER, so why I have so much files like that and why the system don't delete them if there no more snapshot associated ?

There's a recipe to clean a VM FOLDER under VMFS to get the free space ?

Any help will be appreciate.

Are there any -0001.vmdk files? Are they all current in their timestamp?

One one vm, try creating a new snapshot, and then delete it, and see if the files get cleaned up on their own.

Thanx for the quick answer.

1) No ! I don't have any -00001.vmdk files under the VMs folder

2) I created a new snapshot and then removed it and the VMSN files are still there.

Any other suggestion ?

Are the timestamps current? If not, I would move all of the vmsn files to a temporary location, say /tmp, and then restart the vm. If the vm starts ok, which it should, then you can just delete the files manually.

Move the files from the service console, and then rm them if they are not in use. They may be left over from a previous snapshot.

Did this work? I have a bunch of vmsn files too. I think it came from when I moved the configuration file to a different location. Were you able to just delete them?

Ive had the same issue many times, and usually I just create a snapshot/ make sure I am snapshotting virtual memory, and then do a delete all.
