Moving syslog folder to another datastore

i want to move my syslog folder from one datastore to another.  i'm running 5.0.  i tried using vspere like i did when i first upgraded to 5.0 and set the location but now if i change it, it gives me an error.  do i need to first move the vm's off that host before i try and change location?  the current syslog location is running on a lun i want to delete and get back into me system.  when i tried moving it i see it creates the new syslog folder but errors and doesnt accept it.

thanks

andrew

Have you tried the esxcli instructions listed in http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2003322 or how did you try to make this change?

i just went into vsphere and changed to hosts and clusters.  clicked on one of my esx hosts and then configuration tab.  clicked on advanced settings.  clicked on syslog and then tried to change the syslog.global.logdir to the new datastore.  it wouldnt let me.  this is how i did it when i first setup 5.0.

I suspect that the following line from the kb would make the difference:

esxcli system syslog reload

I don't know that that is 100% correct. I was just thinking the esxcli approach would solve your problem now.

Call "OptionManager.UpdateValues" for object "EsxHostAdvSettings-18" on vCenter Server "VCENTER" failed.

There are a couple of other threads with this same error and it turned out to be a DNS issue.
