Unable to do P2V for Windows 2000 server

Can someone correct me on this matter?

We are going to do P2V for Windows 2000 Server. I knew that there is a known issue for scsiport.sys (BSOD). I saw in our source machine the scsiport.sys file is 5.0.2195.6713. Can any one which is the correct version of that file?

From Microsoft I came to know that we have to update one patch file (Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4 (KB891861)).

If my understanding is wrong then please correct me:

1. First download the file (Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4 (KB891861))

2. Install it on the source machine.

3. Restart the source machine.

4. Open the vConverter 4.0.1 and start the migration process.

What all are the other factors we need to consider for Win2000 server?

Please correct me if it is wrong..

Regards,

ZaraRose.

You are on the right path. scsiport.sys should be updated to a later version. The "windows 2000 update rollup 1" came in a updated version, v2, later in 2005 at september 13th.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891861

This later version of the scsiport.sys in this rollup carries a versionnumber of 5.00.2195.7059

Your steps 1. - 4. seem correct. I have just virtualized two servers today with Windows 2000 SP4. It didnt work first time, as I recieved 2 x BSOD. After digging with google and updating with the "new" rollup, booting and virtualizing both servers worked.

There can still be pitfalls as a third server doesnt allow me to install Converter 4.01 - alas, more time with google 🙂

Good luck
