How to connect two or more virtual Windows XP installations to Windows Server 2003?

I'm using VMWare workstation 8. The purpose of this experiment is to install a virtual Windows Server 2003 AD and connect several virtual Windows XP SP3 to it. So I created a virtual machine and installed Windows Server 2003 on it and then configured the DC on it. I then created another virtual machine and installed Windows XP Pro SP3. So now I need to connect that virtual XP SP3 to the DC on the virtual Server 2003, but that doesn't seem to work.

So I was wondering, how do you set up network in VMWare workstation 8 to have several virtual machines communicate between eachother?

To be able to connect the clients to the DC your DNS setup for the AD domain needs to be setup properly. I'd recommend you create a separate virtual network in the virtual network editor and take a look at Re: Need help with virtual Dev enviroment network that requires a domain controller. where I posted a sample configuration based on a virtual NAT network.

Thanks for your reply. So I see, by adjusting the network adapter to use a static IP and a predefined DNS I was able to connect a Windows XP OS to the Server 2003. But the issue now is how to get the Internet connection to work on that XP machine?

If you followed the description this should work.

Did you configure a new NAT virtual network?

Did you configure the DHCP settings on the DC with the appropriate gateway address?

Did you configure DNS forwarding on the DC's DNS server?

If this does not work as expected, please provide the network details of your current configuration.
