V2V citrix to vmware

Hi all,

i  have a nearly 200 xen servers and around 1000 VM's in my environmet i  want to convert all xen server vm to VMWare with minumal downtime. How i  can do this. There all may critical applications are running. How do i  test it. and how i convert all vm's. any script avalliable to automate  this process.

yes, I quoted the same paravirtualized vm's(linux) you will have issues but for windows it will be converted from converter 5.0 without any reconfigurations

and all.

document you have shared is for paravirtual kernel vm's

i don't see any easy option other than grilling repeatation with convertor tool one by one for all the vm's

The Converter does not suports XEN see http://www.vmware.com/pdf/convsa_50_guide.pdf

Hi all,

Can any one tell me,  How to convert citrix Xen server VM to Vmware VM.

Any documents or videos it will be helpfull. I have to convert Nearly a 1000 VMs.

convertor 5.0 supports xen vm's , don't worry it will work with ease....

Try to convert some machines, if you succeeded, then you can automatize the process with Converter SDK www.vmware.com/go/convertersdk

I think the Converter may convert Xen VMs, If you use the converter as if the VM was a physical Maschine (with a supported Guest OS of cource), I think it could work. Maybe removing the Xentools first.

Not tested though.

but only for Windows vm's and not for linux( as they use parvirtualized kernel)

No, it doesn't.

You may try converting them as physical sources, the disks will be cloned but the destination VMs most probably won't boot. You need to do the reconfiguration manually.

kindly help me in this issue.  How do i do it. i have 200 hosts and nearly a vms 1000 vms are running on that host . i need to convert 1000 vms one by one manually or any other way like some powershell script.

if vm converter does not support for these migration then how i should do.

i need to convert these 1000 VMs as soon as possible.

kindly provide me the documents or any other help would be appreciated.
