How to charge shared entities

Hello guys! I've been experimenting with Chargeback manager for a while, but i have a question. So far i've seen that with Chargeback manager it is very easy to calculate the cost of entities of a virtual infrastructure ( eg ESXi's, VM's etc) based on several cost models.
But what happens when we're talking about shared resources? For example if one Business Unit(BU) is using one ESXi server, it is very easy to charge that BU. You just create a cost report on that ESXi and you present it to the BU.

But when, on the other hand, you have many BU's using the same ESXi (eg an email server) things can get more complicated. You can still find the cost of that ESXI, but how are you going to allocate that cost on the BU's that use that server? For example, divide the cost by the number of BU's? Or devide the cost by the number of the BU's taking under consideration the number of users in each BU.. etc..

So the question is, if Chargeback Manager has any additional features that could help that procedure..

Cheers!!

Hi,

Yes, but the feature is only limited to VMs directly added to a Chargeback hierarchy folder. Chargeback has an option to share a VM across folders (I.e. Business units). Please refer to User guide for "Share Virtual Machine Cost" feature.

For now, you need to manually calculate the share percentage based on the criteria (number of email users) for a VM and use that percentage in Chargeback.

Hemanth
