32-bit DSN doesn't show for vUM install

Trying to install vUM on a (virtual) Server - W2k8r1 sp1

separate from the vCenter 5.0 server.

I have more than 5 hosts and 50 guests (no local sql express)

Used odbcad32.exe to create System DSN using SQL driver v6.01.7601.17514 file name SQLSRV32.DLL. ...twice...

SQL authentication, connectivity test was successful.

When I get to the point of selecting the DSN to use to connect to a remote SQL database, nothing shows in the drop down.

Most of the search hits I get are about version 4 or commenting about the 32-bit driver.

Any hints?

Thanks

Are you restarting the installer after making the ODBC addition? It won't pick up the new DSNs in real-time even if you hit back and then next again.

Both 32-bit and 64-bit are called 'odbcad32.exe', so make sure you're using the one in %systemdrive%\Windows\SysWoW64 for the 32-bit one.

Yes, completely restarted install.  - even had a reboot (for ms patches) in between some of the attempts.

Yes, using syswow64\odbcad32.

Validating it's 32-bit (in a way) by not seeing the DSNs when using the 64-bit off the menu.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I downloaded and installed the SQL Native Client, rather than the SQL driver that came with Windows,  and created another 32-bit DSN, and it listed!

.. I don't recall seeing that requirement in the docs.
