FWIW Linux Mint is not even a supported Guest OS for general usage!   Also supported and will not work are not necessarily equal however it is not uncommon to have to add missing packages and or do some patching to get VMware Tools to work with unsupported Guest OSes and or Linux kernels.

The good news is a least VMware is working on Linux 3D support however it's not finished yet.

Mint is just Ubuntu under the hood, except for Mint LMDE, which is Debian Testing under the hood.
